Why portraits Nikon D40 has two thick edges in the photos and landscape shots not?

I use a Nikon D40. I take a lot of ID photos, I upload photos directly to the template, but the photos are two wide black borders on either side when you turn the camera sideways (portrait). When the camera turned to the landscape of the picture is well (no black border, only the issue). Is there any option or setting to delete both of my black borders Pictures?

As others stated, the image does not really have the black stripe. If you see this preview, while the images on the LCD camera, you can choose to disable the preview function rotate function. See page 66 in your manual, Rotate Alto. I keep mine set to OFF as I view larger image possible when the preview so you can suss the image quality. This feature is useful if you are showing a lot of photos to friends friends in the chamber, otherwise maintained. If you're seeing black bands in an image viewer on your computer, then you have a weak image viewer or do not have to configure properly.
