Canon Camera Trouble

Canon Camera Trouble
Problems with Canon camcorder?

I have a Canon ZR85 NTSC video and sometimes the tape will only be completely scrambled when the game again. I'll get big, distorted horizontal lines when I try to play again, and so the tape is useless. Would that be a problem with the video camera or tapes? I have a feeling it could be the result of using a different brand tapes (Fujifilm, JVC), but I'm not sure.

In this particular camera, the ZR85, there was a problem with the CCD. This caused distorted video, and could be causing the problem. To get this fixed, please contact Canon. They will replace the defective part free of charge. You try a cleaning tape through there. If it works, great. Otherwise, you must send the thing into service from Canon, and will repair / replace recording / playback head. Canon service is generally fast and good, but if the camera is not under warranty, repairs can be expensive. So what I would do is to get the camera in Canon ASAP for memories, but also to send a note saying that your tape path may be necessary "adjust". They should be able to tune, and that will give you a clean factory. I would say a good opportunity to get your camera fixed for free!
